HOW A PRESIDENT IS ELECTED
On election day, voters from each state vote for electors to represent them in voting for a president. There is a slate of electors from each party. Electors are usually members of a political party who have been granted the special priviledge by their state political party to represent that party in the elections. Electors are very active in their political party.
The number of electoral votes from each state equals the total number of members of the Senate and the House of Representatives from each state. The winner of the popular vote in each state it typically awarded all the electoral votes from that state. The electors them submit their votes to congress and the winner is announced in December. 270 votes are needed to win the election.
If no one candidate recieves a majority of electoral votes, the election is decided by the House of Representatives.
The average person does not vote directly for the President that is why the Electoral College was made. The founding fathers believed that the average citizen should have that much power in the Election for their president.
